Friday’s Hoot: The Hush Sound – Lion’s Roar
I stumbled across this Typography video and have watched it too many times to count! (Well, actually if I had to guess, I’d say approximately 12 times.) This video is pure perfection. Love the colors. Love the animation. The song is catchy, fun and upbeat… just the thing to start a happy weekend!
Happy Friday!

Scattered Treasures
I am feeling a bit scattered lately. Hey, I heard that giggling… and that sarcastic “just lately?” seemed a bit much; don’t you think? Anyway instead of fighting my new and totally uncharacteristic scatteredness (wink, wink), I’ve decided to embrace it. So, here are several things that I am infatuated with lately.

Maybe if I bought all of them, it would clear up some much needed real estate in my foggy little head. Hmmm…where is my wallet?

You’re going to smell very rainbow-y very soon.
Birds the Word
Here’s the kickoff of a new regular feature on Hey Little Birdie- Birds the Word. A simple explanation- one of my biggest inspirations is quotes (whether from books, speeches, lyrics, etc) so I am going to share something that is inspiring to me at the moment and add in an illustration (picture, product, you get the idea) of those words. To start, I had to make it all about birds (of course!)

sweet little paperclip bookmark from Paper Daisy Design Co.
Rise up this morning,
Smiled with the rising sun,
Three little birds
Pitch by my doorstep
Singing sweet songs
Of melodies pure and true,
Saying, “This is my message to you-ou-ou.”
Singing: “Don’t worry ’bout a thing,
‘Cause every little thing gonna be all right.”
Singing: “Don’t worry ’bout a thing,
‘Cause every little thing gonna be all right!”

Modern Embroidery
Remember how I told about my embroidery kick? Well, I’m excited to tell you I found more! I don’t know what it is, but I really do love the look for wall art. Grandparent’s Day is coming up on September 12th and it makes me especially nostalgic of this old-fashioned-turned-modern craft.

Although I’m sure we all love our Grandma’s, this sure isn’t their needlework! All of these pieces are so creative and beautiful. I’m in love!
Gracious May Baby Shoes
Do you have kiddos? Do they have feet? Then I have a shoe for you…actually two. These are sold in pairs; ingenius, right? Okay, enough footwear humor. These shoes from Gracious May are, as my grandma would say, “the bee’s knees”. Where the heck did that phrase come from anyway? It’s seriously weird. And why do old ladies have some of the strangest colloquialisms? I mean, was there a time when such sayings made sense… sayings like “throw the baby out with the bath water” and “oopsy daisy”? Sorry I just rewatched Notting Hill this weekend. I love the scene when Hugh Grant repeatedly says “oopsy daisy”. It’s classic. In fact, I think the baby that Julia Roberts is pregnant with at the end of the movie (spoiler alert, sorry too late, huh?) would be wearing these shoes! Did you notice how I circled my rant back around to Gracious May? I am seriously becoming a pro at this blogging thing. Or, you are getting accustomed to my illogical thought processes. Either way, we are bonding. I feel it.
So, which shoes are your favorites? Here are a few of mine.
Kate Spade Idiom Bracelets
There are too many reasons why I love these and too many perfect options to choose from so here are just a few:
Kate Spade. Beautifully classic bangles. And lovely little saying hidden on the inside.
The packaging is dreamy too.
Most are only $28-$42. Making them just right for gift giving of any occasion. (hint: if you google Kate Spade Idiom- there are many more versions not sold on the website to be found at retailers like Nordstrom.) These are definitely going on my Christmas list this year!
Friday’s Hoot: Incredible Pop-out Painter
I’m an art nerd. A large part of my childhood was spent hunched over at the kitchen island drawing, or doodling on my notebook in class, or laying on the floor with a big pad of paper in my room. My favorite place to wander was, and is, the Art store. How can you not get inspired seeing thousands of paints, charcoals, and pencils? I honestly am most comfortable and content when I’m interacting with art – whether creating it, researching it, or heading down to the museum. I mean that in the least pretentious way possible. It’s just ingrained in who I am.
I thought I’d show this video today because it is always so fun to see artist’s push past the norm and come up with truly unique ideas… just when you think it’s all been done. That is so inspiring!
So… I’m all about Art. What do you geek out about?
French Inspiration
I took French in college, but whatever you do, please don’t start rattling things off to me in French. I did just fine in my classes, but my retention is, well let’s just say, if I was lost in France, I would stay lost there for a very long time, unless I was looking for cheese… or possibly a library. Wait a sec, if I could eat cheese in a library in France, I might just choose to stay there, lost or not.
Anyway whether we credit my college professors or baguettes, I have this fascination for the language. I think there is a beauty to it that my native tongue lacks. Or it could just be that there is a kiss named after it… or them, the French… not my college professors. Wow, this is becoming a confusing blog entry. Bygones. (Sorry I was just watching an Ally McBeal re-run.)
Back on track… I have seen quite a few things lately with a nod to the French language, and before I get sidetracked again, let’s talk about a couple…
J’aime ma ville T-Shirt from Basic French. Translation: I love my town.
Je t’aime plus qu’hier moins que demain Hand Painted Sign from FOUND. From a quote from Rosemonde Gerard, french poet and playwright: “For you see, each day I love you more, today more than yesterday and less than tomorrow”.
So, in honor of the French language, college professors, and Ally McBeal, join me in declaring, “Vive la France”! Now where’s that baguette…
