Hey Little Birdie!

New Paper Dolls

Growing up my sister and I loved playing with paper dolls.  We even have a funny story of being brought to the toy store separately to pick out a toy for the other for Christmas.  Out of all the toys in all the store, and all of the paper doll sets in the bin, we picked out the SAME paper doll set for the other. It must’ve been a twin thing. (Yes, we’re twins.)  That’s either cute or weird.  You choose. (I like to choose cute.)

It is hard to come across paper dolls these days.  When I do come across them they look like some strange Victorian Babies.  Why?  Are 80 year old grandma’s the only one who want to play with these?  I think not. Well, The Black Apple has answered my prayer for cool, hip, retro paper dolls that I can one day buy for my daughter.  These are so fun, so unique, and beautifully designed.  I absolutely love them!

Do you have a favorite childhood toy?

  3. So, I have a more comical paper doll story from childhood. All I can say is that my sister and I had Donnie and Marie Osmond paper dolls… and all of their clothes were purple! Ahh… the 70s!

  4. That can’t be true. Please tell me it’s not true. (Is it true?)

  5. I was present for the aforementioned Christmas paper doll situation (which also included them buying the exact same button pin for each other at a completely different store) and it was WEIRD. Sweet, but definitely more weird than anything else.

As far as the Osmonds go, something tells me that our sister-in-law Lisa had those, too. The Osmonds did love their purple.

  6. wow. those are two crazy paper dolls stories!
when i was little i loved barbie. (of course.)
to further the silly story theme- my brother ryan used to murder my barbies by popping their heads off. and one day ken was his latest victim. being a very resourceful 7 year old, i decided to chop off my least favorite barbie’s hair, put ken’s clothes on her and make her into the new “ken.” my mom was a little worried about that one but i think it was pretty creative! :)
