Featured Post: Inspiration Room

“A house has to evolve and change.” —Furniture designer Julian Chichester

My husband and I are attempting to spruce up our house and do some light redecorating.  We decided to find an inspiration room as a way to maintain an editing eye.  (I would suggest looking thru stills at 1st Option – many amazing rooms there.) I think the trick is to pick out your favorite aspects of the picture.  Really stop to consider what you love about the picture whether it be colors, furniture placement, specific items, etc.    The nice thing about an inspiration room is that the pieces you choose for your own room don’t have to be exactly the same as the ones in the photo.  If you stick with the same colors and vibe, you can’t go wrong.

Here are six accessories I found that were inspired from this room:

1. Large Wall Clock, $109.99

2. Judy Paul ‘Garden’ Oversized Canvas Art, $142.99

3. Crows in Tree Print 4×4, $6.00

4. Hand Poured Porcelain Ceramic Apple, $13.00

5. LOVE Pillow in Red/White, $24.00

6. Sedona Low Open Tote, $19.95

You can go as cheap or as expensive as your budget allows.  For example, the clock would be the most expensive accessory at my house since I am an artist and could (at least attempt to) whip up a large canvas painting.  Perhaps you could make your own pillow… or do some basket weaving.

I love the decorating technique of an inspiration room. You really figure out your style and it helps you become a smart, thoughtful and inspired shopper!

  1. This is great, Josie! So inspiring… and I love your picks. That room is incredible, but it’s true you have to pick through the elements. I can totally see you creating some of these pieces yourself. Then I could just buy yours. :)
