Oh Deer!
When were very first married my husband asked me if I would be ok with it if he had a mounted deer/elk/Bambi head hung in our house. My reaction was complete horror. At first he got bonus points for asking for collaborative decorating. Then I thought, why does he have an opinion on home décor, particularly one that is so bad. Then I wondered how could I have not known this was a want of his for the last three years? Did I not know him at all? AND did he not know me at all? AND WHY? WHY? WHY? Why would you want that ish in your home?
Fast forward five years. I am still not ok with taxidermy anything. A friend described it recently (in reference to Cabellas) as “it is like a creepy zoo.” But I can’t deny the fabulous moment that mounted faux deer heads are having right now. And, ahem, I am kind of smitten with them. Yeah, they are very kitsch and trendy and will likely be one of those things we look at in 15 years and shake our heads in shame. I say who cares. They are fun.
So if there is a time for compromise on this one, dear hubby, I think the moment is here.

I still can’t do it! Even if they are fake. Imagine sitting as a kid at the table, sleepily eating your cereal, looking up out of the bay window into your backyard, and seeing Bambi perfectly centered in your view, tied to a tree with her guts cut out. I’m scarred for life.

I like 3 and 6, and the definition of 8. 4 is UBER creepy… and 9 is designed to introduce children to hunting?

Well, you know my love of Misfit Menagerie, but in addition to that, I really like #6. Add typography to anything and I’m hooked or mounted or… wait, that’s not right.

Haha. I totally love number four. Like LOVE. However I am not sure it is faux. Pretty sure it is not. Does number 7 remind anyone else of sparkling vampires?

I’m kinda totally in love with #4. If she had pearls on I think Nicky would hang it up somewhere.
I visited Cabellas for the first time last weekend and the stuffed trophy elephant was amazing. Who would have thought?!!
