I have to confess I am a touch baffled by the whole Airstream trailer craze. At first glance it seems so charming to have your own little gypsy caravan. However the thought of committing to owning and actually utilizing it, well it is just a bit incomprehensible. Airstream trailers as temporary accommodations? Yes, please!
In Bisbee there is this crazy amazing trailer park / motel called the Shady Dell. It is a shrine to midcentury modernism and houses nine trailers, a tiki bus and a yacht for overnight accommodations. I have never been there but have heard wonderful things about it. Everything at the Dell is very particular to being period specific which helps create an ambiance lending to time travel. You’re going to get a percolator to make your coffee. For your dose of media there are record players that play period music and a TV wired to a camouflaged DVD player so you can view 1950’s movies and shows.
The Shady Dell even has its own greasy spoon, Dot’s Dinner, where you can chow down on hamburgers and shakes.
Basically this place is kitsch in all of its glory. I don’t know about you guys, but I kinda feel cooler just looking at this place. I am pretty sure I would be convinced I was a through and through beatnik if I ever stayed here.
Today is the last day for the See Jane Work giveaway!
