Korres Lip Butter Glaze

One of my favorite little gifts from my fabulous sister-in-law, Alex, was a little trio of lip glosses from the brand Korres. Being a lip product addict, I am always super excited to try something new.

Line-Smoothing Lip Butter Glaze Trio ($42 Value)

I’ve tried their Cherry Full Color Gloss in the past and liked it so I had high expectations for these glazes. And they definitely lived up to my standards! Incredibly moisturizing in a soft way, not sticky or gunky in the slightest, and they deposited deep vibrant color which can be hard to find in a gloss. As always, I love that they are a natural product, free of all the parabens and icky chemicals that inhabit too many beauty buys. My favorite shade is Pomegranate- it’s the perfect bright coral hue, a nice blend between pink and red, and very flattering on my fair skin. You can purchase the trio at Sephora or pick out the color just right for you individually.

Maybelline Lash Stiletto Review

I have a few beauty products that I swear by loyally and a few that I consistently change up on the never ending quest for the perfect formulation. One of those revolving door products is mascara. I can never find my favorite. I recently grabbed Maybelline’s Lash Stiletto in black at Target to finally try after hearing lots of positive feedback. I have to say that overall I am very happy with it and will stick with it for awhile until I get the urge to give another a chance. The good: it’s super cheap, has a narrow wand (which I find easier to use), goes on smoothly, has decent separation and lengthening power, no flakes and gives a nice curl to my lashes. The bad: not much. I didn’t find it particularly volumizing but it wasn’t that big of a deal to me. One other thing I love about it is that I have been using it for a couple weeks now and so far the wand is staying clump free! That is a huge bonus in my book. So if you’re in the market for a new mascara, I recommend to give this one a go. And if you have found the perfect mascara already then let me know about it!

Bee Inspiration

Have you ever heard of “sand bees”? I don’t know if they are a real thing or just something that my friend’s husband made up to mess with me. This past weekend we were in San Diego for the Labor Day holiday, and while walking on the beach one morning, I was stung by a bee for.the.first.time.in.my.life! It just crawled out of the sand and bit the side of my foot.

I was really hoping to go my whole life without getting stung by a bee. I felt like that wasn’t too much to hope for. I mean, I am a good person. I pick up pennies. I always wash my hands after going to the bathroom. I honor my father and mother.

I was perfectly prepared to not get stung by a crazy bee who has decided to live in the sand. I mean everyone and everything, except for this random bee, wants to fly – Superman, my husband, those birds from the Alfred Hitchcock movie. Well, they kind of want to peck through doors, but you know what I am saying.

Anyway, this crazy bee decided to ruin my bee-sting-free-streak and commit suicide at the same moment. Alfred Hitchcock should do a movie about sand bees next. It would freak me out just as much.

The bright side in this story… my incredibly sweet and super hero of a husband pulled the stinger out of my foot, and consequently won my vote for next thing worthy of flight. In honor of such an experience, I found this beauties.

Imagine Eau de Parfum from Lollia

This was a birthday gift from my husband last year and boy, he did good! Not only is the bottle beautiful and picture perfect, but the scent is A-mazing.

Perfume lines have alluded me and I have struggled in finding one I could get excited about. (Well, as much as you can struggle about perfume.)  Most perfumes are either too mature and heavy feeling, like a lot of Estee Lauder to me (maybe because that’s what my mom wore while I grew up) OR it’s too rosy.  Think Crabtree & Eveyln.  Both good companies, but alas, neither meant for me.

This Imagine fragrance from Lollia… it is light and feminine with an understated flowery scent.  I wish you could smell this right over the internet!  (Nerds, get on that idea.)  Since that’s not possible (yet) look for it at these stores.  You won’t regret it; It is absolutely perfect.  I might just head down myself to sniff the other Lollia fragrances until my heart is content.

California Baby Calendula Cream

Complicated name for a simply wonderous cream.

Back story: Claire has experienced eczema patches her entire little life. No matter what lotion I try, it never seems to completely heal them. And because of her epilepsy, I am wary of anything chemical laden or prescription. I spotted this tiny jar in the natural section of baby aisle at Target and decided to give it a go. I wasn’t expecting much but I was very pleased with the fresh lavender scent and very descriptive label. California Baby is a tried and true organic brand and I felt very safe using it on Claire. You can’t begin to know how excited I was when after only four days, her normally rough, scratchy areas were soft and smooth! I am completely amazed. This product may be a bit pricier ($12) then I would normally want to buy, but if I purchased this first instead of working my way through a handful of other lotions, I would have saved money. If you or your children deal with overly dry, eczema prone skin then try this!

Retro Dopp Kit

This product comes to us from my really cute husband, Mike, who is totally right when he says we’ve been neglecting the men-folk around here lately. My husband of almost 12 years scours the web on a regular basis (if you, reader, are his boss, then I modify that to more accurately say he scours the web on a regular basis during non-work hours only).

Anyway, these retro dopp kits come to us from Flight 001 and were showcased on the amazing Uncrate not long ago. They perfectly show that function and style can go hand in hand when traveling, even for guys. Before I get sidetracked, Flight 001 has women’s toiletry kits/travel bags as well… anything and everything your little traveling heart could imagine. Super fun products!

But going back to Uncrate, if you are not familiar with this site, you must check it out. They have amazing finds for the man in your life. Getting closer to Father’s Day, it might be a place to bookmark or add to your reader or whatever you do to stay in touch. Oh, and you should totally do the same for us here at Hey Little Birdie. I mean, we love you more than any other site ever could.

So, in honor of the father of my child and my blogging inspiration… Mikey, this one’s for you. Enjoy!

Vintage Peony Soap

Yes, it has been established that us HLB girls have a serious Anthropologie crush. So is it any surprise that I am completely head over heels for their newish garden/vintage shop, Terrain? Browsing through their selections is like entering a Nicky wonderland. Take this little bar of soap:

Vintage Peony Soap

You may at first think, “Who cares? It just a bar of soap…” But not for me. Pretty Packaging? check. My favorite color combo? check. My most beloved flower/scent in the world? check! See what I mean? They get me. I must order this post haste.

Check out the rest of Terrain’s lovely soaps (and don’t forget the rest of their gorgeous products). You just may find your perfect little present too.
