Birds in Gold Tote

with 2 comments

I’ve never been the kind of girl who changes her bag everyday based on what she wears. So I need versatility. And while I require quality, I’ve never been able to bring myself to invest a few hundred bucks to purchase a designer bag. So I need value. Oh, and you should know that along with these criteria, I also crave a uniqueness to such an essential staple accessory. So I need distinctiveness. Enter DrikaB. I have salivated over her products for months now. So, you can imagine my excitement when a couple of months ago I finally purchased this.

And it is all that I hoped it would be.

  • Versatility… Check. I can throw in Lyla’s diaper bag or carry it solo!
  • Quality… Check. DrikaB products embody craftsmanship.
  • Distinctiveness… Check. Have you seen anything as adorable in your trips to the local mall? Nope. Me neither.

Now I am hoping for the beautiful bag above… or maybe one of her others. There are so many choices. So look with me, through her options. And feel confident that I can vouch for how amazing they are.

Happy Shopping!

Flower Hair Pins

with 7 comments

Here’s a confession, I am seeking ways to be on the outside who I am on the inside. Does that sound deep or what?! Ha! What I really mean is, I often lack the self confidence to pull off the looks I truly love. Like giant flower clips in my hair. Or headbands. Or sky high espadrilles that would make me taller than my husband (sorry babe). I love classic, timeless styles but I also have a soft spot for vintage, retro pieces. And I usually keep that part of me hidden because I am too timid to show it. I need baby steps. Like these:

Neutrals. Fleur Hair Pins

or these:

Margarita. Hair Pins

Dainty yet slightly funky hair pins from Love, Mia. They are affordable, loved by BRIDES magazine, and heralded as well crafted, lasting accessories. Check out all the color and flower options in her shop. I’m thinking these little pretties will help me come out of my shell.

Do you have any fashion confessions? Something you’ve always wanted to wear but were too shy? Or something you wish you NEVER wore? (Cue the hammer pants, acid washed jeans, slouch socks walk of shame!)

Retro Dopp Kit

with 4 comments

This product comes to us from my really cute husband, Mike, who is totally right when he says we’ve been neglecting the men-folk around here lately. My husband of almost 12 years scours the web on a regular basis (if you, reader, are his boss, then I modify that to more accurately say he scours the web on a regular basis during non-work hours only).

Anyway, these retro dopp kits come to us from Flight 001 and were showcased on the amazing Uncrate not long ago. They perfectly show that function and style can go hand in hand when traveling, even for guys. Before I get sidetracked, Flight 001 has women’s toiletry kits/travel bags as well… anything and everything your little traveling heart could imagine. Super fun products!

But going back to Uncrate, if you are not familiar with this site, you must check it out. They have amazing finds for the man in your life. Getting closer to Father’s Day, it might be a place to bookmark or add to your reader or whatever you do to stay in touch. Oh, and you should totally do the same for us here at Hey Little Birdie. I mean, we love you more than any other site ever could.

So, in honor of the father of my child and my blogging inspiration… Mikey, this one’s for you. Enjoy!

Vintage Peony Soap

with 2 comments

Yes, it has been established that us HLB girls have a serious Anthropologie crush. So is it any surprise that I am completely head over heels for their newish garden/vintage shop, Terrain? Browsing through their selections is like entering a Nicky wonderland. Take this little bar of soap:

Vintage Peony Soap

You may at first think, “Who cares? It just a bar of soap…” But not for me. Pretty Packaging? check. My favorite color combo? check. My most beloved flower/scent in the world? check! See what I mean? They get me. I must order this post haste.

Check out the rest of Terrain’s lovely soaps (and don’t forget the rest of their gorgeous products). You just may find your perfect little present too.

Seashell Convertible Tank

with 4 comments

My son’s last day of school is Friday and it’s starting to hit me.  Summer is coming…. Summer is coming!!!  Weather-wise, it already feels like summer here in Austin, but soon we will be able to lazily greet the days with long stretches and non-rushed cups o’ joe.  *big sigh*  My son has dreams of an “unlimited supply of TV and video games” (seriously what he said – ha!), but mom has plans to get the kids out of the house! So light, cotton and cute summer fashion is needed.

Roxy has the coolest Convertible clothes where one piece gives you multiple looks. Check out your options for the Seashell Convertible Tank:

Adorable and so smart!  I love Roxy for summer.  Seriously makes me want to head out to the beach for some sand and surf!  Although, our summer plans involve visiting family in Wisconsin so we might head to a lake instead. ;) Sounds good to me!

Any summer plans in the works out there?  Where do you like to spend your summer vacation?  By the pool?  At the beach? Cooling down in the mountains? Let’s talk summer!

Chloe Fragrance

with 2 comments

Chloé

I am enamored with this perfume. I must have it. And soon. Why do the best fragrances have to be so darn expensive? And why do they never go on sale like everything else? The scent is fresh, feminine, delicately floral and reminds me of my favorite flowers- peonies. And did I mention it is perfect for me? And did I mention my birthday is next month? (I’m hoping my husband is reading this.)

In all seriousness, are there any fragrances you are loving right now? Tell me about them! I am on a bit of a perfume kick lately and would love to hear the details on your favorites.

Keep Calm and Carry On Bandages

with one comment

I am a sucker for this British WWII Slogan and my inner 4 year old is geeking out about the band-aids. Let me tell you, my childhood stuffed animals and dolls were very well cared for with many-a Snoopy band-aid.

These days I have camo band-aids for my 9 year old, Lightning McQueen band-aids for my 2 year old… who says my next paper cut can’t also become my next fashion statement???

You can find them for $7.50 over at delight.com!

Oily Hair Help

with 3 comments

Tell me I am not the only one out there with  oily hair? I have always been super jealous of everyone who can save time and not shampoo on the second (or sometimes 3rd) day. I, on the other hand, have many stories involving family camping trips as a teen where I force my mom to pour a bucket of freezing water over my head just so I can be spared the embarrassment of the oilies. Yes, I will gladly suffer for beauty.

However, I recently discovered a solution that has revolutionized my hair routine. First, I picked up an adorable shower cap at Safeway. You can get it here at Amazon but it’s like $2 cheaper at the grocery store so check there beforehand.

Spa Sister Shower Parlour Bag + Shower Cap Shower Caps

The reason why a shower cap is crucial is because the moisture and humidity from your morning wash are going to make your oily hair even worse. Sealing it all inside a cute little cap while make you smile and preserve some of your hair dignity if you are going to attempt this second day ‘do. Next, find yourself a bottle of Batiste Dry Shampoo available at Ulta.

Then take off your shower cap, shake up the dry shampoo can and spray it all over your tresses, especially the roots. The next step is vital- don’t touch anything and let the spray sit in your hair for a minute. Then comb, shake and fluff out out your mane. Brillance! Your hair now looks fresh and clean and you feel confident to go out in the world after kicking the oily monster’s butt.

Tell me- do you have a useful beauty solution? a secret remedy to a common problem? Give me the details!

Korres Cherry Full Color Gloss

with 3 comments

Cherry Full Color Gloss

I am the Imelda Marcos of lip gloss. It is by far my favorite cosmetic product and I am a proud connoisseur.  One formulation I go back to over and over again is Korres Cherry Full Color Glosses. They have the most pleasing cherry taste (very subtle by the way), are uber eco-friendly and natural, and have the prettiest shades (both light and bright). Korres Lip Glosses are also one of the few glosses that are non-sticky. Huge bonus points for that! I hate when your gloss is like a magnet for stray hairs-yuck! Add super moisturizing and benefical vitamins and oils to their check list and you have one stand out gloss. Korres is available via their website or at any local Sephora.

Do you have a go-to lip color? Give me the details!

Ruche

with 2 comments

I love Anthropologie.  It’s the only store I hurry to in order to linger in.  I love to meander in the store (on that rare occasion I have the chance).  I love to browse their website for inspiration.  I even love to watch their buyer at work in Man Shops Globe!  Interesting fabrics, vintage-modern feel… I guess that’s my style.  You may be surprised to know, for how much a gush about them, I don’t love everything in the store. Sometimes I’ve thought Am I really supposed to wear black-and-white striped leggings, like a witch? (They did that awhile back.) Uh, no.  But that’s just another reason I love it.  It’s interesting… unique… creative… inspiring.

I’ll find the cutest dress with just the right cut, just the right color and just the right detail and my heart will skip a beat.  I’ll walk across the store, feel the fabric (nice!), notice the detailing (so pretty!) and look at the pricetag (OUCH!).  Then I’ll put it back and wonder why I do this to myself.

But I found this other shop, Ruche.

It’s Anthropologie-like.  And it’s affordable!  Take, for instance, this shirt.  So cute!!

Ruche:  copper coils button up tunic, $34.99

compared to this shirt with the same feel:

Anthropologie:  illuminated way blouse, $128.00

That’s a $93.00 difference!  Want to see more?  Here’s their Look Book.  I don’t love everything from this store, but there are some definite great finds of unique, vintage-inspired clothes with an affordable price tag.

Don’t worry, Anthro.  You’ll always and forever be #1.
